Navid MahdiZadeh

I am Navid MahdiZadeh and I am proud to be part of Hitachi ABB Power Grids because of its key commitment to enable greener grids and reduction of the carbon emission, wherein our eco-efficient switchgear plays a key role in.

I am a Market Innovation Manager, High Voltage Products at Hitachi ABB Power Grids. I am an expert in the HV circuit breaker technologies and SF6 alternatives.  ​I am specializing in the eco-efficient switchgear technologies with focus on SF6 alternatives.

I have a doctoral degree in Physics. I am since, 2007 with Hitachi ABB Power Grids. I have held different roles since - from scientist; R&D manager/team leader GIS; global product manager, Eco GIS. I was first involved in research projects dealing with the AirPlus technology (alternative to SF6) and contributed to the world-first eco-efficient GIS [1]. Many of those innovations have been either published or IP protected by Hitachi ABB Power Grids. I was also involved in different successful HV Switchgear R&D projects.          ​

CIGRE Contribution

I was an active member of Cigré B3.45 group (Application of non-SF6 gases or gas-mixtures in medium voltage and high voltage gas-insulated switchgear). In this year we have finalized the brochure. We will have a tutorial on the final brochure during the digital Cigré session 2020 in Paris. I have also another contribution I am co-author of the eCigré 2020 contribution B3.118,   Project planning and design of the’ World's first 420 kV SF6­ free GIS substation in Germany [2].
