Transformers R&D Senior Engineer

Hitachi ABB Power Grids is seeking an R&D Senior Engineer for its Raleigh, North Carolina location. This role is responsible for encompassing the integration and test of various diagnostic and analytical tools to assess the reliability and condition of transformers for the Transformer Business Line (BL).

Your responsibilities

  • Develop new and improve existing methodologies for testing of Digital Transformer Monitoring products
  • Develop detailed test plans, pass/fail criteria, test reports, and other artifacts to complete thorough test evaluation. Perform test execution of functional tests, regression tests, and system-level testing of Digital Transformer Monitoring products
  • Perform wiring updates, test fixture buildup, and hardware installation to support the continued buildup of the Digital Lab
  • Utilize Transformer expertise to support hardware and software development teams on Transformer Monitoring products
  • Monitor and report project costs, technical risks, and progress periodically
  • Assume overall project ownership and responsibility
  • Global collaboration with scientists in Power Grids Research (PGR), Technology Managers, and Engineers from the various Business Lines within Power Grids
  • Follow execution practices following standard Power Grids internal directives, Power Grids Gate Process, and procedures

Your background

  • Master’s degree in engineering and a minimum of 3+ Years related experience with Transformers or Industrial Monitoring devices. Candidates must already have a work authorization that would permit them to work for Hitachi ABB Power Grids in the United States
  • 2+ Years of testing experience, including the development of testing methodologies and artifacts highly preferred
  • Industrial protocol experience (Modbus, DNP3, IEC61850, IEC60870-5-104, etc)
  • Ph.D. in engineering preferred
  • Software scripting capabilities (Python, VBA, etc)
  • Experience with multiple aspects of transformer on-line monitoring (hardware and software); Knowledge of transformer diagnostics (site and factory tests, DGA, Oil Quality, FRA/DFR, and PD) and interpretation of on-line monitoring data
