Internship Dielectric withstand of Gas Insulated Switchgears 80-100% (m/f/d)

Hitachi ABB Power Grids is a pioneering technology leader that is helping to increase access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all. We help to power your home, keep the factories running, and our hospitals and schools open. Come as you are and prepare to get better as you learn from others. Bring your passion, bring your energy, and plug into a team that appreciates a simple truth: Diversity + Collaboration = Great Innovation

Physical understanding of gaseous breakdown and flashover processes. Analysis and evaluation of measurement data, breakdown database maintenance, including SF6 and alternative gases. Support project teams for new project development (high voltage circuit breakers), by means of electric field simulations, maintenance of dielectric evaluation tools and basic tests. The duration of the internship is 6 to 12 months.

Your responsibilities

  • Literature search on recent work regarding breakdown/flashover in technically relevant conditions, also including gases alternative to SF6, data extraction (includes field simulations, e.g. Comsol)
  • Data post-processing, analysis and evaluation of internally performed breakdown measurements; update of breakdown data base
  • In general, familiarizing with the database, possibly suggesting new measurements if relevant gaps or conflicting data are found
  • Collaborate in high voltage circuit breaker (SF6 and alternatives) development project teams related to dielectric design
  • Support the design process with breaker E-field simulations, basic tests and dielectric evaluation tools maintenance

Your background

  • Student (preferably Master-level) in Physics, Mechanical, Electrical Engineering, or a related field
  • Above average proficiency and interest in programming (e.g. Python and/or Matlab, utilization of Python libraries)
  • Knowledge in High-Voltage Engineering is advantageous
