Åpenhetsloven/Transparency Act

The new Norwegian Transparency Act  entered into force on July 1, 2022. The act imposes an obligation on Hitachi Energy Norway AS to carry out risk assessments to prevent human rights violations and ensure decent working conditions with our business partners and suppliers and an obligation to provide information on the risk assessments performed, any findings in the risk assessments and actions implemented to mitigate the risk.

Processes for ensuring compliance with basic human rights and fundamental principles and rights at work
Hitachi Energy has developed policies and standards applicable to all companies within the Hitachi Energy group to ensure that the requirements in the global framework are met. These policies apply for suppliers and vendors to companies in the Hitachi Energy group.

Hitachi Energy (Company) is committed to developing an organizational culture which implements a policy of support for internationally recognized human rights and seeks to avoid complicity in human rights abuses. We support the principles contained within the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights, the OECD Guidelines for Multinational Enterprises and the ILO Core Conventions on Labor Standards. Hitachi Energy Social Policy

Supplier Code of Conduct
All suppliers and vendors will have to pass a thorough qualifications process, in which they have to sign Hitachi Energys Supplier Code of Conduct. Risk assessment
As all companies in Hitachi Energy group comply with the strict group policies and instructions, the risk of violation of human rights and requirement for decent working conditions within the Hitachi Energy group are considered to be low. Hitachi Energy considers the main risk of violations to be within the external supply chain.

Hitachi Energy’s main efforts in the risk assessment is in the qualifications process of new vendors and suppliers. Hitachi Energy has a well-established process for supplier qualification and classification based on supplier financial structure, legal structure, location, scope of services and risk profile. Performance will be monitored through purchasing KPIs. If there are changes within the supplier related to these criteria, the supplier will be subject to re-qualification. Company qualification process is supported by the Supplier Lifecycle Performance (SLP) module in the SAP Ariba Tool.  

The majority of the suppliers to Hitachi Energy are from companies within the Hitachi Energy Group, based on purchase value. Suppliers that are not part of the Hitachi Energy Group will have to be qualified through supplier qualification process. The major suppliers are qualified through operated SAP Ariba.

All suppliers are required to accept the terms in Hitachi Energy Supplier Code of Conduct, hereby accepting compliance with all applicable laws and regulations related to human right and fair labour conditions, HSE, responsible sourcing, business ethics and personal data protection.

Hitachi Energy Norway has an ongoing and structured process for a risk analysis of the suppliers and vendors not part of the Hitachi Energy Group, based on the country where the supplier is located, and type of goods and services provided. So far, no major risks have been identified.

Training
All employees in Hitachi Energy have undergone a mandatory training in Hitachi Energy’s Code of Ethics and business conduct and have to confirm to comply with the code as part of the employment process. Key personnel will have to refresh the training and reconfirm adherence to the code annually.

Reporting channels
Hitachi Energy has a speak-out policy and employees, customers, and contractors are encouraged to notify what may constitute a breach of the code, without any risk of retaliation/whistleblower protection. Hitachi Energy Reporting channels
